Canada Whistler Blackcomb Ski Resort Review

hello. This is Miki’s Honey, MikiHani.

This time, I’d like to talk about Vancouver’s Whistler Ski Resort, not Rocky Mountain. lol

It’s already 13 years ago, and while I was working and working in Canada, I was wandering around here and there and suddenly a hot deal at the Whistler Hotel popped up, so I hurriedly made a reservation and went to the Whistler Blackcomb ski resort, which I had only heard about in Korea. hehe

Before coming to Canada, I was passionate about snowboarding with ski club members in Korea, so Whistler was a dream-like ski resort that I only heard about. Of course, now that I have Lake Louise Ski Resort, which is just as good as Whistler, I’m not as passionate about it as I was then. lol

If you are curious about Lake Louise Ski Resort, please read the article below. This is truly a ski resort optimized for snowboarders! Of course skiers love it too!

Now, let’s take a trip down memory lane to Whistler Ski Resort. hehe

The hotel I stayed at at that time was probably the Pan Pacific Whistler Village Center. The hotel was inside Whistler Village, and the Pan Pacific Whistler Mountainside Hotel of the same hotel chain was right in front of the gondola, and I remember it being very convenient because I could leave my equipment there.

When I first arrived at Whistler Village, I felt a bit of culture shock(?). It felt like a small European resort rather than a ski resort. The ski resorts I knew only had a few ski slopes and auxiliary facilities were just springing up out of necessity (Rocky Mountain’s ski resorts are not much different from Korea in terms of auxiliary facilities), but Whistler Village itself is like a large European resort. It was very interesting how it was decorated.

Look at the commercial streets decorated in European style! If you come down after skiing and have a cup of coffee at the Starbucks on your right, you really feel like you’re at a resort!

And the hotel had a very cozy room with a full kitchen, so I was very satisfied with my stay.

Since it was a room with a full kitchen, I bought groceries at the supermarket and ate.

The outside view from the hotel was also very charming. It must have snowed the day before we arrived, so everything outside was covered in white snow.

It must have snowed a lot a few days before I arrived, so there was a lot of snow on the slopes, and although the weather was good in the village below, I remember that it was a bit cold at the top of the mountain because it was a bit windy.

It was a long time ago so I don’t have many photos from that time, but I remember the Peak 2 Peak gondola that connects the peaks of the two mountains.

The bottom of the gondola is made of glass so you can see down.

This gondola connects the two mountains and was a great ride when traveling around the wide Whistler ski resort. Especially if your accommodation is in Creekside (Creekside is a neighborhood located when you go down the right slope from the mountain on the right), it will greatly shorten the time to get to your accommodation from the left slope.

BACKCOUNTRY

On the first day, the ski field was large and had a variety of slopes, so I had fun wandering around, and luckily in the evening, I met friends who were working on a working holiday in Whistler. We had a meal together and talked about various things, and the next day, we were offered to go backcountry together, so luckily we ended up going backcountry together.

In the backcountry, there are places where you can’t get out if you go into the wrong Powder Snow slope, so you must be accompanied by a guide. A friend who was going with me said he would lead me to a route he often takes, so I followed with the feeling that if not this time, I would try it some other time.

First of all, it was difficult just to get to the starting point of the backcountry. lol

After taking the lift to Jeongsa Temple, I continued to move to the right, sometimes climbing up without the lift, and walked through the snow for several tens of minutes until I finally arrived at the starting point of the backcountry. It was really hard just to get this far. I sweated a lot. lol

I took a glorious photo before starting the backcountry trip with the friends I was with at the time! hehe

Where are these people and what are they doing now? Would you like to settle down and live in Canada? Or is he going back to Korea and doing something else?

The way down the backcountry was not easy. I had to follow the path taken by my guide, but I accidentally took a wrong turn and got stuck in the snow, so I had a hard time getting out of the snow for about 20 minutes.

Still, I managed to make it down the backcountry, wading through the snow between the trees and rocks.

After rolling down the snow field, there was a lot of snow inside my clothes, so I had to do some maintenance underneath.

When I turn around and look at the slope I came down from, I wonder how I got down there. hehe

Now that I’m older, I can’t go backcountry like that, so my first and last backcountry experience was in Whistler.

Lake Louise Ski Resort also has backcountry slopes, but while Lake Louise’s backcountry was a more well-maintained backcountry slope, Whistler’s backcountry just felt like going down a snowy mountain with rocks and trees in place.

Because it was so long ago, I don’t have many pictures, but I will finish my review of the Whistler ski resort by uploading a few panoramic pictures.

Bye~.

The picture quality is not very good because it was taken with a digital camera 13 years ago. It’s all gloomy and dark. ㅠ ㅠ.
