Top 10 Places for Family Travel in Rocky Mountains Recommended by Locals Part 2

This entry is part 8 of 16 in the series Canada Rocky Mountain Travel

hello. This is Miki’s Honet, MikiHani. If you are wondering where to go when traveling to Rocky Mountain, please refer to this article.

In the first half, I recommended very famous tourist destinations that everyone can recognize, but in the second half, I recommend places that are unknown to Koreans due to some restrictions, but are preferred by locals.

Honestly, Lake Louise is nice. How could anyone not be amazed by such a view? However, it’s good once or twice and it’s hard to park if you don’t go early in the morning, so I don’t go there often unless there are guests.

However, the 5 places recommended now are places that are not well known to outsiders, but are in no way inferior to the 5 famous tourist destinations in the first half.

If you haven’t seen the top 5 of the first half yet, please watch Part 1 first.

6. Sulphur Skyline Trail

The difficulty level is Hard according to Alltrails, but it’s not as difficult as you think.

This is a hiking course located 60km away from Jasper. To be honest, there are too many hiking courses in Rocky Mountain that are as good as this one. Even if I go all my life, I can’t go all the way.

Of course, as Skyline is in the title, this is a very nice course with beautiful views all the way up. But there is something very special here that is different from other places. lol

It’s Miette Hotspring! Miet Hot Springs! There is a hot spring right here on the access road, one of only a few in Rocky Mountain!

When you soak in hot spring water after an arduous trek, there is no other paradise. But that paradise is cheap. Cost is $16.50 for adults.

There are three Hotsprings in Rocky Mountain.

Banff Upper Hotspring, Miette Hotspring, Radium Hotspring

First of all, Banff Hotspring says that we boil water with a boiler, not hot spring water. I think Radium is the best hot spring water. However, as you can see from the photo above, Miette has the best scenery. Of course, the hot spring water is also good.

This is a combination of Sulfur Skyline and Miette Hotsprings! It’s impossible to beat this.

Aren’t the pleasant moments of climbing to the top, admiring the Rocky Mountain scenery, coming down, taking a hot spring, and having dinner with your companions with a refreshed mind become the driving force to live hard for the rest of your life?

7. Rocky Mountain Legacy Trail (Canmore – Banff Bike Tour)

This is one of the best tours in the Rocky Mountains that you don’t want to miss.

The Banff Legacy Trail was created to commemorate the 125th anniversary of Banff National Park. This is a bike trail that the national park recognizes as good. I think the experience of riding along a well-maintained bike path of about 27km in the cool, clear summer weather of Rocky Mountain for 2-3 hours while appreciating the beautiful scenery is probably a bike trip that you will remember for the rest of your life.

You can rent a bicycle and ride it, and if you have difficulty riding a bicycle, you can also rent electric bicycles (E-Bikes), so you can enjoy it regardless of your physical strength.

The road is well-maintained with asphalt as shown in the photo. The scenery is more than you could imagine.

You can easily rent a bike in Canmore or Banff, so search for “Rocky Mountain Legacy Trail Bike Rental” to find a rental shop. The price is about $60 per day for a regular bike and $100 for an electric bike.

If you have a friend in Calgary, wouldn’t it be better to borrow a bike and a bike carrier from them and bring the bike yourself to save on rental costs?

If you rent a bike rack together and one of your group picks you up at your arrival location by car, you don’t have to make a round trip.

8. Invermere Kayaking + Radium Hot Spring

This is already the second hot spring, but the hot spring is not the main attraction, but kayaking is the main attraction. lol

Still, it would be a pity not to go when there is a good hot spring right next door! So I added it. It is one of three hot springs in Rocky Mountain National Park.

First of all, Invermere is a city in BC (British Colombia), 3 hours away from Calgary over the Rocky Mountains. It’s quite a distance, right? So, going on a one-day course may be a bit burdensome, but there are many tourist attractions near Invermere, so if you have time, it would be a good idea to go on a 2-night and 3-day or 3-night and 4-day itinerary.

There are many good golf courses nearby and many things to enjoy such as hot springs, lakes, camping, etc.

For accommodation, you can camp or book a hotel near Radium Springs or in Invermere.

If you don’t have time, you can leave early in the morning and do kayaking and hot springs. Although the 6-hour round trip is a burden! This is Canada, where the sun rises from 5 a.m. to 10 a.m. in the summer! Since the sun is up for 17 hours, you can kayak and go to the hot springs before the sun sets! lol

Invermere kayaking is done on the Colombia River. It is very calm and the scenery is great, so even if you are new to kayaking, you can do it without difficulty.

At first, I was worried that I might fall into the water or something like that, but since you go slowly through very calm rivers and lakes with little current, you can enjoy the scenery for about 3 hours and do a little bit of rowing. There is a 1-person and 2-person version, and I recommend the 2-person version. When one of you rows, the other can take pictures, and it’s more fun if you talk together.

You should carefully apply sunscreen to all exposed areas, including your face. Most smartphones are waterproof, so there is no problem in using them, but you may want to use a necklace, etc. to prevent them from falling off.

You can rent equipment near Radium Hot Springs or Invermere, but I rented it from Far Out Gear Rental near Radium Hot Springs. Since the kayaking destination is Radium Hot Springs, if you rent a kayak here, you can return the kayak and go straight to the hot springs.

9. Emerald Lake + Paddle Board

Emerald Lake is a lake in Yoho National Park. As the name suggests, it is a lake with beautiful emerald color and beautiful scenery.

There are several national parks in the Rocky Mountains, the main ones being Banff, Jesper, Yoho, and Kooternay National Parks.

There are Banff and Jesper in Alberta, and Yoho and Cootenay in BC. Cooternay is where Invermere is, and Yoho is above it.

The most famous lake in Yoho National Park is Emerald Lake. Of course, it is also one of the most famous lakes among all national parks.

As you can see from the photo above, it is not only beautiful, but you can also meet many people enjoying kayaking or paddleboarding on the lake. If you go to Emerald Lake, I recommend trying kayaking or paddleboarding.

Sometimes, during crowded periods, bringing personal equipment and riding on the lake is prohibited, so it’s a good idea to check before you bring personal equipment. Please check the Yoho National Park website below before you go.

If personal equipment is prohibited, you can use rental equipment provided by the lake. The price is a bit expensive, about $90 per hour, but you can rent the equipment for a slightly cheaper price if you rent it in the city. However, if you want to rent one in the city, you need to attach a carrier to the car, so it might be easier to just pay a little more and rent it at the lake.

10. Waterton Lake National Park

I debated whether I should add Waterton last, but I ended up adding it.

As a tourist destination, there is nothing to criticize in itself, but the problem is that the location is ambiguous, so I was worried. It’s 3 hours south of Calgary, and the only place to the south is Waterton. If you go to Rocky Mountain, you can do this, that, and many other things at the same time, but I think it’s not cost-effective to only stop by Waterton in a limited time.

So, I would like to recommend that those who have some time to spare start early in the morning and go on a day course.

Waterton Lake is a national park with a lake adjacent to the US border. There are several tourist attractions nearby, but the first place I recommend is Waterton Village.

It is a small city located next to a beautiful lake and not as crowded as Banff or Lake Louise. It is a city so nature-friendly that it is not strange to see wild animals naturally roaming around the neighborhood. It’s easy to access and easy to look around, so it’s great.

Another place is called Crypt Lake Trail. I haven’t been there, so it’s hard to describe it accurately, but it was selected as the best hiking course by National Geography, so I think it lives up to its name. However, it is 10km long and 750m high, so it is not an easy hiking course for the general public. .

Still, the course itself seems to be beautiful and has many fun places.

Should I go up a cliff without a safety device?
I don’t think I can..
s there a cave on the hiking course? lol

In this way, I have explained the top 10 tourist attractions in Rocky Mountain. These 10 places are just a taste, and there are many more wonderful places depending on personal taste. There are many places that are difficult to access as a short-term tourist.

My friend and his wife are into backpacking, so they visit backpacking spots, and there are a lot of good bike courses, as well as more difficult hiking courses. And winter hiking and night hiking are also fun.

First of all, if you are short on time, why not enjoy the beginner course with the top 10 here and then find your own course from there when time allows? If you enjoy a harder hiking course, please leave a comment. We have a Santo in our group, so he knows all the Rocky Mountain courses, so he will be able to recommend the right course for you.
