Top 10 Rocky Mountains Places Recommended by Locals Part 1

This entry is part 4 of 16 in the series Canada Rocky Mountain Travel

hello. This is Miki’s Honey, MikiHani. I provide travel information for Canada’s Rocky Mountains.

I tried to give it some strength by including words like “best” in the title . lol

If you live near Rocky Mountain for a long time, many of your acquaintances will visit, recommending tourist attractions and often going there as a guide. This time, I would like to recommend about 10 tourist attractions that I recommend my friends visit when they visit.

The location was chosen based on family tourism standards. It was assumed that children and parents move together. I will decide on a separate recommended place for young people.

For those who have a short itinerary, we recommend places with high cost-effectiveness in the first part, and for those who have a lot of time, consider the recommended places in the second half.

Now, the long-awaited number 1.

1. Lake Louise & Moraine Lake

Needless to say, just look at the photo in the article below.

It is said that Canada has as many lakes as there are stars in the night sky, and you can see two of the most beautiful lakes in one day.

Even if you don’t like lakes or natural scenery, just go see them and take pictures. Even if you are not impressed, you can still impress people who see your photos. Here, even if you take a picture with your feet, it looks like a piece of art. It’s real!

2. Fairmont Banff Spring Hotel – Sunday Brunch Buffet

Secondly, among the many recommended places, this is a place I definitely recommend to friends.

I had great memories of enjoying the natural scenery of Rocky Mountain and then talking about the trip while enjoying brunch together while looking at the beautiful scenery at a fancy restaurant, so I made sure to eat at that brunch restaurant at the end, even though it was expensive. I recommend that you go for it.

Usually, when touring the Rocky Mountains, there are many places to go and little time, so you often eat only moderate meals due to your busy schedule. However, if you finish the trip by sitting at a luxury hotel restaurant at least once and eating delicious food to your heart’s content while leisurely enjoying the outside view, it will make the entire trip worth it. It feels like the quality has gone up by two to three times.

Brunch is only available on Sundays and you must make a reservation. The quality of all the food was very good and everyone from children to elderly parents were satisfied. There was a variety of desserts available, from typical American brunch food to casual pizza, and sometimes king crab.

When the weather is nice, the view outside is great, so ask your server for a window seat.

The Banff Springs Hotel is a Rocky Mountain attraction in its own right.

I don’t have any photos taken during brunch, so I’m uploading photos of the interior taken during the lunch menu.

3. Maligne Canyon

First of all, Maligne Canyon is near Jasper.

Banff is the most famous tourist destination in the Rocky Mountains, but I like Jesper more. The downside to Jasper is its distance. It takes 4 and a half hours by car from Calgary to reach Jesper, and although it is far and accommodations are expensive, Jesper is still a city you must visit when exploring the Rocky Mountains.

When you get near Jasper, there are animals just wandering around on the road. lol. In Banff, if you go a little further into the mountains, you can easily see animals walking around, but Jesper is a more nature-friendly neighborhood. I saw a bear wandering on the road near Jasper.

If you’re lucky, you might see a bear on Jesper Road. It’s dangerous, so don’t get off and approach!

Enough about Jasper, the third recommended destination is Maligne Canyon. This is a place you must visit with your family when you go to Jasper. It is the deepest valley in the Rocky Mountains and is well maintained as a tourist destination, so you can easily enjoy it with your family. It is a valley that even older people can enjoy without difficulty.

The total length is a course that goes down a valley of about 3.7km and then back, and when you complete it, you can think of it as climbing a mountain of about 120m.

Although the site is in English, you can find more information and photos about Maligne Canyon by clicking the link below.

There are several bridges in the valley, and you can feel a bit of a thrill when you look down while crossing the bridges. lol

It seemed like I could go down in the winter when the valley water froze. I haven’t gone down yet.
In winter, there is also a program called Ice Walk Tour. Sounds fun.

However, I have been to Jasper in the winter to snowboard, but I have never been there for sightseeing, so I never thought about doing a tour like this.

4. Calgary – Jesper Drive

To be honest, you may think that driving is sightseeing, but riding a tour bus and seeing the view from the side window is completely different from seeing the view unfolding in front of you from the driver’s or passenger’s seat. Be sure to rent a car and drive at least from Calgary to Banff. Driving in Canada is not difficult even if it is a foreign country.

And there is a point that I really like. If you leave Calgary and take National Highway 1 for about 15km towards Banff National Park, you will come across a road that goes up a hill. Up until this point, the majesty of Rocky Mountain has been hidden, but the moment you climb to the top of the hill, the spectacular view of Rocky Mountain suddenly unfolds before your eyes like a panorama. Be sure to enjoy the majesty of the majestic mountains stretching endlessly to the left and right while driving.

Of course, it’s nice to look at it from the side while riding a tour bus, but I think it would be much better to see it while driving in your own car.

I won’t upload any photos because I want you to experience this part for yourself. lol

5. Top of Banff Tunnel Mountain

I thought a lot about the fifth one, but I thought I should recommend a hiking course.

However, for young people, I would like to recommend an active hiking course to the top of a high mountain. If you take all families into consideration, this seems to be the best hiking course for everyone.

First of all, accessibility is awesome. You can walk from downtown Banff.

Second, it is an easy course that can be attended by people of all ages. According to Alltrails, it is a course of medium difficulty and is 4.3km long with a climb of about 260m. The path is well-maintained, so you can easily hike up it even wearing regular shoes.

Lastly, even though it is such an easy course, the view from the top of the mountain is very nice. It is a place where you can see both the downtown Banff scenery and (a little bit) of the Rocky Mountain scenery. You have to go to the top of a higher mountain to experience the true scenery of Rocky Mountain, but this hiking course is worth it just for the view of downtown Banff.

It’s cloudy so I can’t see the mountains behind.
On a clear day, you can see all the mountains behind you.

As for the top 5 Rocky Mountain travel tourist attractions, I have decided on 5 places that I definitely recommend to my friends. The top 5 in the first half were recommended based on the assumption that families would travel among the most famous tourist destinations.

In this episode, we focused on major tourist attractions, but in the next episode, we will select the top 5 recommended Rocky Mountain travel destinations that are not well known.
